Vinny's at Night Description:
This curtained-off dining room is set in the back of Vinny's Superette, a Somerville convenience store and deli. The ceiling is painted with grapevines, and the plastic tablecloths sport red-and-white checks; a map of Sicily fills one wall. A true joint, it attracts a lot of guys clicking their sports beepers (got to see if the Celtics covered, you know). You'll also see young people and yuppies who dig the scene and love the big portions of robust Southern Italian food. Most diners start with the self-serve antipasto table, laden with cheeses, olives, cold cuts, the occasional pizza, meatballs, caponata, arancini and potato croquettes. There are also pasta dishes, the best being those made with seafood---like linguini with spicy mussels---and local Sicilian expat specialties like the celebrated pork chop with vinegar peppers and potatoes. It can be boisterous, but that's part of the charm of one of the last old-fashioned Italian restaurants in town.
