Gwyn's High Alpine Restaurant Description:
Gwyn's is quite simply the best restaurant on Snowmass Mountain. And you can only get there on skis. Tucked inside the large rustic caféteria-lodge is this small white tablecloth restaurant with windows overlooking the scenic surroundings. The mood is Tyrolean informal and the food is always fresh and appealing. Savvy skiers and crowd-shy celebs beat the morning mall congestion by starting their day at Gwyn's for breakfast. We saw Diana Ross breakfasting on the Alpine potatoes sautéed with fresh mushrooms, zucchini, green onions & tomatoes with Alouette, jack & cheddar cheeses one morning. At lunch, we often start with the wild mushroom tart filled with shiitake, porcini and forest mushrooms with sherried onions and cream in a pastry crust--and split the ample portion. Even non-vegetarians choose the Rustic Vegetable Stack of marinated grilled Mediterranean vegetables. Other pop hits are the seared Hawaiian ahi with red pepper wasabi cream on a bed for field greens, roasted Mediterranean lentil & couscous, wild mushroom & sun-dried tomato lasagna and the venison noodle bowl. Reservations are a must at lunch.
