Nogawa Restaurant Description:
Do not let the dilapidated façade and nondescript interior of this building deceive you; the cuisine at Nogawa is by no means ordinary. To experience the best that the season has to offer, request chef Yoshio Nogawa's omakase menu. Standouts from an autumn tasting include a platter of glistening fresh sashimi, deftly cut and plated with mastery; a fatty toro aburi (torched) with a smoky tang, which crumbles in the mouth like foie gras; palm-size Niigata oyster with a clean, milky taste and a delicate crunch; and an intensely flavored soup of bonito flakes and dried seafood served in a mini winter melon with edible "treasures" of matsutake mushrooms and abalone. Even the baked hokkaido pumpkin filled with seafood, topped with sea urchin and mozzarella cheese astonishes with its simple sweetness. Sushi Nogawa serves saké only. As for sweets, who needs green tea ice cream if Japanese peaches are in season?
