General Store & Post Office Tavern Description:
Hooray. Gillian Clark and her fried chicken are back in business at this out-of-the-way eatery in Silver Spring. Open for breakfast (muffins and such), lunch and dinner, the restaurant does offer more than fried chicken, but look for food with a Southern edge, from po' boy sandwiches to some of DC's best greens chock full of thick bits of smoky bacon. Paired with the ultra-crisp fried chicken, these two make a meal worth driving 20 miles for. Other offerings include fish tacos, chili, and mac 'n' cheese. Homey pies make up the dessert menu, and if it's listed, order several slices of the pecan pie. A real sugar rush.
