Wild Ginger Description:
No flash-in-the-Pan-Asian, Wild Ginger, from owners Rick and Ann Yoder, was an immediate sensation when it opened. It's as busy as ever with consistent crowds for lunch and dinner. The setting is essentially neutral: an airy space decorated with Asian art and featuring those high-backed wooden booths we have come to count on for privacy. Two full-service bars rock until late into the night, especially on Mondays when there's live jazz. Downstairs, the Yoders have a separate, grown-up music venue, The Triple Door. The kitchen's consistency, the authenticity of the food and the use of top-notch ingredients are among the restaurant's strengths. We can't resist starting with an assortment of satay: skewered grilled chicken, beef, prawns, lamb, even rabbit arrive glistening with a different marinade, seldom overcooked, each with its own intriguing dipping sauce. We may follow that with laksa, a multi-textured, hot and salty soup from Malaysia. Our choice from among the five curries would be Dungeness crab, and we have always been delighted by Wild Ginger's famous Fragrant Duck, a crisp-skinned deep-fried bird redolent of cinnamon and star anise and served with steamed buns and plum sauce, good for sharing or keeping all to yourself.
