Ray's Boathouse Description:
Ray's Boathouse is actually two separate restaurants: an elegant fine dining room, which only serves dinner, and a lively upstairs café. Both spaces offer spectacular views of the snow-covered Olympic Mountains and sunsets over Puget Sound. At night, the formal but unpretentious dining room is bathed with a romantic glow and offers serious cuisine. Ray's prides itself on serving wild, not farmed, fish. Start with briny fresh local oysters or chilled poached Gulf prawns. For entrées, the grilled salmon and sweet Alaskan king crab legs will not disappoint. If you can't decide, order the sampler, which includes Alaskan king salmon, Chatham Strait sablefish in saké kasu, and Alaskan halibut. For a more casual meal, head upstairs to the noisy, high-energy café with its outdoor patio and huge stone fireplaces. Good bets in the café include Ray's notable clam chowder, freshly ground salmon burger with tarragon shallot mayo, light and crispy fish 'n' chips, and the seafood combo salad. During happy hour the bar menu is half-price. Ray's wine cellar features an impressive collection with a heavy emphasis on Northwest wineries. Service, especially in the dining room, is polished and attentive.
