Ponti Seafood Grill Description:
Ponti is famed for its fish selections and for having one of the city's prettiest outdoor patios. Come summertime, diners can watch ship canal traffic or the raising and lowering of the vintage Fremont Bridge from tables overlooking the sparkling channel. Inside, there's now a stylish, informal café that offers a topnotch happy hour and a less expensive menu. Order a three-course dinner for $20, smaller portions of several dishes from the dinner menu, or just go for the pommes frites dusted with sweet fennel salt and served with garlic aïoli. For more formal dining, the simple yet posh dining room is equally appealing. Start with the grilled marinated Monterey calamari. Seafood highlights include the fragrant Thai curry penne made with generous chunks of Dungeness crab meat and grilled diver scallops under a fresh basil chiffonade. Bouillabaisse fans will enjoy the fragrant broth kissed with saffron and a splash of Pernod, and brimming with tiger prawns, Manila clams, Penn Cove mussels and scallops. For a sweet ending, choose the lemon tart or the trio of custards with generous portions of chocolate pot de crème, espresso crème brûlée and white chocolate crème caramel.
