Located two floors under the Decatur Building in the heart of downtown, this upscale steakhouse boasts polished cherry wood walls, low lighting and tasteful art. A weekday preponderance of suits and ties turns the place into a swanky corporate boardroom (the two private dining rooms are popular destinations for business meetings), albeit with a full bar and swinging Sinatra soundtrack. The Morton's formula is simple and honed to an art form: ingredients and service meet exacting standards and chefs are trained to know the precise difference in cooking times between medium rare and medium. Every juicy, well-marbled New York strip steak arrives cooked to order. Fish shows up on the menu too; swordfish shines under a luscious béarnaise sauce. Lobster bisque is heady with shellfish flavor and nicely edged with a kick of cayenne. Scallops wrapped in bacon are sweet, salty and smoky. Lyonnaise potatoes or steamed asparagus with hollandaise are fine à la carte accompaniments. Finish with a Grand Marnier soufflé to cap the meal. In a word, we are smitten. All that's needed now is a flush expense account.
