Le Gourmand Description:
Beautifully presented French cuisine with a contemporary flourish is the trademark of this low-profile restaurant. Although the elegant décor is more quaint than chic, the dining room is appropriate for special celebrations or an evening with good friends. Chef-proprietor Bruce Naftaly and his wife, Sara, who is the pastry chef, have a loyal following, and with good reason. Everything here is made from scratch. The prix-fixe menu is a good place to start, and we have been impressed by the seafood mousseline, as well as the beef tenderloin bathed in Merlot pressings with a side of marrow. Halibut arrives with petite puff pastries to absorb the silky tarragon cream sauce. The pretty house salad, lavished with edible flowers plucked from the kitchen garden, revels in its Chardonnay vinaigrette. For dessert, profiteroles are filled with homemade ice cream. In an adjoining space, a small, hip bar is fine for casual, drop-in patrons. Cocktails are potent here, and small bites are prepared with the same care and dedication as plates destined for the dining room.
