Il Terrazzo Carmine caters to a well-heeled, somewhat conservative crowd. It might not appeal to hipsters but is lovely for a special celebration or an evening out with discriminating clients. Because you enter through an office building foyer, first impressions may not be favorable, but the airy, tiered dining room has the feel of an Italian country villa. In the evening, a celebratory mood takes over, but the ambience remains romantic, especially by the fountain in the secluded courtyard or when gentle strains of live classical guitar music enhance the mood. Start your meal with a selection of antipasti from the lavish assortment of roasted, grilled and marinated vegetables and seafood displayed near the entrance; we recommend the sautéed calamari. At least a half-order of pasta is also a must. Choices may include venison ravioli or pappardelle in a rich veal stock laced with chanterelles. We prefer the grilled veal chop over the rack of lamb, and if you like sweetbreads, this is the definitely the place to order them. An extensive wine list features more than 300 selections from Italy, the Northwest and California.
