A convertible, modular design adapts for the seasons: in summer, floor-to-ceiling garage windows create an airy patio. During cold-weather months, the space is enclosed around a fireplace creating a cozy environment. The mood is casual, but the food sometimes approaches elegant, both in preparation and presentation. Visits from Mexican chefs periodically inject a contemporary note into the menu. One may find braised, banana leaf-wrapped pork shoulder paired with a complex sauce of achiote, lime, onion and Mayan spices. Wild Pacific salmon bathed in tamarind sauce is served with mashed sweet potatoes. Starters to note include mussels, pan-roasted with garlic, olive oil, white wine, ancho chiles and a touch of tomato and cream.
