Dulces Latin Bistro Description:
While stylish décor, white linens and uniformed servers set the scene, at heart this is a casual neighborhood restaurant serving an intriguing fusion menu of French, Spanish and Italian cuisine. We like the dining room, where fiery walls and a Latin guitar set a dramatic mood, and the clubby, intimate fire-lit cigar lounge is equally inviting. Chef Julie Guerrero is hard at work in the kitchen; husband Carlos Kainz manages the front of the house with friendly aplomb, and has compiled an impressive international wine list. The menu changes seasonally. Start with the Alsatian onion tart; potent, pipian-covered chiles rellenos stuffed with cheese and crusted with cornmeal; or prawns in a chili-laced citrus butter sauce. Try the rack of lamb encrusted with thyme and horseradish, or veal scaloppine with its creamy mushroom sauce, a delight when chanterelles are in season. Yet mainstays such as paella Valenciana and cassoulet fall just short of wonderful. Guerrero excels with desserts: bread puddings, pecan pie and cajeta (a Mexican caramel and chocolate tart).
