China Gate Description:
This restaurant in Seattle's International District has a dual personality. When the clock ticks 9 p.m., China Gate turns into a karaoke spot. During lunch hours, it's all about dim sum, served daily between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Dim sum items include shrimp balls, turnip cakes, short ribs and chicken feet, all offered from rolling carts. You can augment the dim sum with one or two substantial items from the dinner menu (more than 100 items are available all day). Wonton soup, rich and generously portioned with slabs of barbecued pork, is a good starter. The roast Chilean sea bass, cooked whole, gilded with honey and garnished with tiny carved vegetables, is a show-stopper. For a sweet finale, choose the heart-shaped mango pudding.
