Mama mia! Bring a sense of humor and a big appetite, but leave your discerning palate home if you want to enjoy this lively, labyrinthine family-style eatery known for hosting big, festive parties. A mix of every Italian-American cliché you've ever encountered, the kitschy décor features vintage Italian family photos plus headshots of celebrities such as Sinatra and even the Pope. Abbondanza is the order of the day, but be forewarned. Here, quantity doesn't always equal quality. Overflowing platters of pasta, salad, veal and chicken dazzle with their sheer surface area: each dish is meant to serve three to five persons. The 12-layer lasagna, oozing meat and cheese, is the size of a shoebox. Pizzas are two-feet long with yeasty, cracker-thin crusts. Veal piccata doesn't impress, but the chicken cacciatore---the whole bird in a red sauce studded with capers, mushrooms and garlic---does. Almost everyone leaves laughing with belts loosened and shopping bags full of leftovers. Be prepared to hear Dean Martin sing "That's Amore" at least once, and groups singing "Happy Birthday" at least twice. Try to reserve the Pope's Table.
