Brad's Swingside Cafe Description:
There's nothing fancy about Swingside Café's décor, unless you think baseball memorabilia is stylish. But good Italian fare is served in this funky, idiosyncratic little cottage. While the presentation may lack finesse, dishes are tasty and portions generous. What put Swingside on the map is its interpretation of classic pasta aglio e olio, enhanced with capers, sun-dried tomatoes, anchovies, Marsala and ground hazelnuts. Most of the regular menu is devoted to pasta, but specials can include truffle-kissed venison stew over potato gnocchi or a searing seafood gumbo brimming with crab, halibut and rock shrimp. The gutsy seafood puttanesca is always a good choice. Appetizers are limited to antipasti such as a smoky caponata and kalamata olive tapenade, or a combination plate including these spreads along with goat cheese and marinated vegetables. Little is predictable here, which is what makes it so much fun, especially when live music---generally jazz or blues---fills the room.
