Bizzarro Italian Cafe Description:
Living up to its name, Bizzarro is an artsy bistro with an eccentric personality and whimsical sense of humor. Tables and chairs hang from the ceiling, along with an enormous puppet head, strings of colorful lights, and cockeyed chandeliers, all surrounded by purple brick walls, and strange murals. But don't let the décor fool you. The Italian menu is creative and well-prepared. The inventive selection changes seasonally and might include toasted crostini topped with whipped Gorgonzola, red-wine-poached figs and a port wine reduction, or tiny ravioli pillows stuffed with creamy pumpkin. The Forest Floor Frenzy features a mélange of exotic mushrooms and roasted garlic in a sherry crème sauce. Check the chalkboard for specials, such as lasagna layered with fresh spicy sausage, spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms and pesto. Entrées include lamb shanks, veal piccata and roast chicken. For dessert, try the classic bananas Foster or the luscious espresso-infused chocolate bundt cake topped with chocolate-hazelnut gelato. Despite its funky décor and sense of humor, Bizzarro is for adults, not families with young children. While service is friendly it can also be uneven.
