Portage Description:
Butter-yellow walls and low lighting create an intimate atmosphere for enjoying well prepared French bistro cuisine. Owners Vuong and Tricia Loc offer a menu with two categories: vegetarian or entrées, which change often, featuring seafood, meat and poultry. Design a meal from both categories, select the vegetarian, or choose the traditional four-course tasting menus (select wine pairing may be added). Flavors are delicate, sauces light, and portions just right. The vegetarian items also make ideal first courses. Our favorite is the ravioli with hazelnut mousse, caramelized delicate squash tossed with frisée, slivered almonds and crumbled goat cheese. Entrées may include pan-roasted quail accompanied by a fennel-pear salad drizzled with dried cherry vinaigrette, seared diver scallops with a potato truffle risotto, a hearty côte de boeuf, or braised pork belly with mushroom fricassée. End with the flourless chocolate cake or, when in season, caramelized peach tarte Tatin. The short, somewhat pricey wine list offers mostly French regional selections with a few Northwest options.
