Andaluca's tranquil dining room is a favorite spot for business lunches or romantic pre-theatre suppers. After dark, low lights subdue the brilliantly-colored walls and slide over the undulating curves of the dark wood surrounding snug booths. Executive chef Wayne Johnson has special training and a passion for Spanish cuisine, and it shows on the menu. Offerings may include a tower of crab, avocado and palm hearts served with a brisk gazpacho salsa. Roasted mussels were bathed in a zesty blend of lemon, rosemary, chilies and garlic butter. A romaine salad was topped with tabbouleh with manchego cheese shavings, and the Cabrales-crusted beef tenderloin was joined by a grilled pear and potatoes mashed with Idiazabal cheese. For a genuine wine-and-appetizer bargain, stop in for happy hour.
