Custom House Restaurant Description:
Early in the previous century, this waterfront restaurant actually was the government customs facility for the Port of San Luis. This history is reflected in the Americana art and black-and-white photos of the port in its heyday that decorate the restaurant. A gathering place for locals, it's especially popular for breakfast, when it serves a variety of egg dishes (from huevos rancheros to eggs Benedict) as well as buttermilk pancakes, Irish oatmeal, and malted Belgian waffles. Don't miss the omelets, which can be customized with options like artichokes, smoked salmon and crab. Lunch and dinner feature grilled beef, pork and fresh fish. A bowl of the hearty clam chowder is generous enough to split as an appetizer, the fish 'n' chips are available either breaded or tempura-style, and the crispy mahi mahi fish tacos are topped with queso fresco instead of the usual jack or cheddar. Classic sandwiches like the Club and French dip don't disappoint either, and we also like the spicy Bloody Marys. Enjoy the ocean air by dining on the large outdoor patio or cozy up to the fireplace if the weather is chilly.
