Since 1980, Mama Maria Rosa Rizzo and her family have been serving up stylish trattoria fare in the renovated bottom floor of the 1910-vintage former Reidy Hotel, and this restaurant continues to be one of the regional benchmarks of Italian dining. Traditional favorites include the creamy burrata appetizer, the classic Caesar, and linguine with clams, but it's also fun to check out the creative seasonal specials such as a beet and avocado salad or an apple cobbler dessert made from local fruit. The Rizzos also stay on top of trends by using sustainably raised meats when possible, such as with the grilled Niman Ranch pork chop and the hearty beef ravioli in a Hearst Ranch grass-fed beef ragù sauce. In fact, the restaurant offers a nightly $30 three-course prix-fixe that often focuses on such locally sourced fare. Desserts range from a decadent tiramisu to crème brûlée to a cheese plate featuring a locally made sheep's milk cheese (when it's available). The impressive wine list features both local wines and a nice range of Italian selections, plus more than two dozen by-the-glass options.
