Buona Tavola Description:
Buona Tavola would be perfectly at home in Italian restaurant-crazed Los Angeles. In fact, chef-owner Antonio Varia came to San Luis Obispo after a stint at L.A.'s Locanda Veneta. Starters include the usual Italian salads and carpaccio, plus light-textured duck and turkey dumplings with an onion confit marmalade. We suggest pastas like the corkscrew noodles with green olives, capers, roasted bell peppers and basil. Entrées range from a T-bone steak seasoned with garlic, thyme and rosemary to chicken in a garlic-mustard sauce to fresh fish. The Sunday brunch menu includes such Italian classics as frittatas and crespelles (Italian-style crêpes), which can be accompanied by a sparkling peach Bellini or strawberry Rossini.
