Samovar Tea Lounge Description:
The tranquil room bathed with natural light, accented with brick red lanterns, and anchored by a linen-topped pagoda-style tea bar, is as welcoming as a warm cup of tea. Tables along the wall and in the back room are perfect for quiet conversation or an afternoon of reading while the elevated communal tea table, with a floor full of plump pillows, calls out for a bigger group. Teas from around the world fill up the full-page menu divided into types of tea from white and green and black to oolong, herbals and pu-erh. The names are as beautiful as the aroma that wafts up on the steam: Jasmine Snowbud, Black Peony Rosette, Water Angel. The uninitiated will appreciate the fine versions of Earl Grey, mint and Samovar's breakfast blend. A menu of sweet and savory dishes is meant to complement the teas and includes wild smoked salmon and eggs, artichoke tarts, gingerbread cake and an amazing bowl of fire-roasted Marcona almonds with vine-ripened Mojave raisins. A high tea is served weekdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
