Crave Description:
This sun-drenched, spacious property at the junction of Polk and Vallejo has morphed often in recent years, from coffee shop to tea parlor and now into the sandwich and salad plate joint that is Crave. The interior (with counter service) is sleek and spare, with smooth wooden tables and chairs, and there is a handful of prized tables out front. Though the coffee is good and plates seem promising---gourmet macaroni and cheese, barbecued pulled-pork sandwiches---we found the service slow and almost surly, and the results on the plate uninspired and, in some cases, overpriced, including a thrown-together "hummus plate" of hummus, several olives, bread and cucumber for nearly $8.
