5A5 Steak Lounge Description:
This modern and elegant American-Japanese steakhouse effectively blends classic with contemporary---as evinced by its enormous overhead focal point, a saucer-shaped light fixture outfitted with swirls of red and orange tinted recessed lighting. The adjacent lounge, comprised of sleek and stylish leather booths and ottomans, is a hip spot for after-work cocktails and bar bites. Cream-colored booths encircle the perimeter and fill the central area to allow for comfortable, chic seating, while simple and modern table settings preserve a sense of sophistication. Starters include delicate fried shishito peppers and tender hamachi shooters. Flavorful pea soup features puréed snap peas and a rich dollop of Dungeness crab, and steak-cut fries are seasoned with truffle. Diners can choose to stay with traditional cuts of meat, such as bone-in filet or New York strip, or sample the A5 Wagyu cuts for which the restaurant is named, priced by the ounce. Of the American-style Kobe choices, we recommend the buttery A5 NY. Desserts, such as house-made matcha tea donuts, are bland despite sounding creative. Wines are mainly Californian, with a smattering of interesting French selections.

This is my favorite happy hour spot in the entire financial district! My friend invited me over to a happy hour gathering a few weeks back and now I'm hooked. I love their happy hour specials for drinks and appetizers. Highly recommend their $1 oysters (Wednesdays), hamachi shooters (delicious!), and shishito peppers (best bargain). I've also come here for dinner a few times and tried their steaks. I'm glad to see that they're included on Gayot's list of top steakhouses because this place does not disappoint. My favorite is the buffalo steak medium rare. Absolutely perfect! And, of course, you can't leave without trying their desserts. Bread pudding here was out of this world. Can't wait to go back and try more... and I still need to try their signature kobe A5 steak. My friends keep raving about it, so I'm saving up my money for that one.

Chose this place since it was tops on Gayot's steakhouse list, and Gayot was right on point.
Very different from the traditional steakhouse - chic and sexy decor, loved the fireplaces. Outstanding food to compliment our overall dining experience.
Place was packed on a Thursday evening, so we had to wait just a few minutes past our reservation time, but not a big deal as the four of us caught up over drinks in the lounge.
Hamachi shooters are to die for, and the truffle fries were just the perfect level of crispiness. The mac 'n cheese was really good The potatoes were good, but not great. My wife's filet was excellent, but my A5 New York was in a league of its own - it just melted in my mouth! The couple we went with shared the world wide wagyu platter and absolutely loved it.
For dessert we had the bread pudding - best I've had in a long time.
The service was excellent, friendly but not stuffy.
We will be back time and time again.

You normally go to a great restaurant for the food. But, I've kept coming back to 5a5 because of more than just the food. Don't get me wrong, I love a good steak and 5a5 serves up a good variety of them. My favorite is the dry aged T-Bone steak that they serve up with onion rings and ciopinno onions. Delicious.
I also like their World Wide Wagyu. You get a 4-oz New York cut of true A5 Kobe from Japan, A5 wagyu from Australia and A5 wagyu from America.
5A5 is one of my favorite hang-outs in the Financial District. It's a great lounge environment. You don't need to come in for a real meal to enjoy the great food. They have amazing happy hour specials for drinks and appetizers and their bar area is cozy and sophisticated. I highly recommend their shishito peppers or the truffle fries if you want something simple.
