Yabbie's Coastal Kitchen Description:
Yabbie's is under different ownership but fans don't need to worry---the warm, neighborhood feel remains and the food is still every bit as good. Chef Megan Smith is staying put, and so are the signature dishes like the spicy tuna poke. The raw bar is still one of the city's best, with oysters and clams on the half-shell as well as chilled crustaceans, sashimi and the famous combo seafood platters. For starters, the Dungeness crab cakes are a must. Entrées aren't adventurous but the simple flavors work---Pacific halibut, served with tomatoes and English peas in a light, lemony seafood nage, is flaky and moist with a nicely caramelized top; wild salmon arrives medium-rare with crispy artichoke-potato cake, asparagus and tarragon butter sauce. While Yabbie's has never served yabbies, they do now---Smith serves the Australian freshwater prawns shell-on in garlic-butter broth with crunchy crostini for sopping up every juicy drop. Don't forget to check out the nightly specials which include fish 'n' chips, roasted crab and pozole with cod cheeks and coriander cream, and a pretty authentic New England clambake.
