Oyster enthusiasts flock to the Hog Island Oyster Company's lively bar and tables in the San Francisco Ferry Building for delectable offerings and a pristine view of the sparkling bay, green East Bay hills, and bountiful sky. The company's sustainably raised, freshly-shucked Sweetwaters are worth experiencing alone or with a variety of Atlantic and West Coast oysters such as tiny Kumamotos or rich Belons. Signature Hog Wash is a twist on traditional mignonette with the addition of cilantro and rice wine vinegar. For those averse to raw oysters, Sweetwaters also come baked with a sweet-tart beurre blanc, barbecued, showered with shallots and smoky bacon Casino-style, or in a hearty stew. Diners can also opt for creamy Manila clam chowder for a satisfying lunch. The amiable staff is more than happy to direct diners through the shellfish-focused wine list and many locally brewed beers on tap. Don't miss $1 oysters and $3.50 beers at the oyster happy hour on Mondays and Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
