This unassuming eatery is a definite find---the large, inexpensive menu is filled with Chinese-American classics as well as more interesting traditional items such as jellyfish salad, braised sea cucumber, bean curd in brine with pig's feet and mussels, and sliced chilled beef tendon. A large dim sum menu offers a variety of hot, fresh dumplings, porridges, noodles and small plates like salt-and-pepper shrimp that arrive hot and fresh even mid-afternoon. But the best reason to visit Happy Garden is for the hand-scrawled specials taped to the window---we had two Maine lobsters, fished from a tank right after we ordered, sautéed in an aromatic sauce of scallions and fresh hunks of ginger for under $20.
