Located adjacent to the Argonaut Hotel, Blue Mermaid offers decent renditions of seafood classics like crab cakes and crab Louis in a setting reminiscent of old Gold Rush-era San Francisco. Eight house-made chowders anchor the menu and all can arrive in a San Francisco sourdough bread bowl. The sampler is a good way to try three varieties, from more traditional New England and Manhattan to more creative takes such as salmon and fennel, oyster and leek, and crab and sweet corn.
