Aix Bistro Description:
Chef-owner Jonathan Beard put this French-inspired bistro on the map back in 1996. Since then, Marina locals have been tight-lipped about their little slice of heaven. They are reluctant to share any of the space in the cozy white-walled dining room dotted with black and white photos, the even cozier and romantic back patio, or the comfortable L-shaped bar (perfect for wine and appetizers for two or an early bird prix-fixe dinner for one.) Now, another coup for the already popular spot, a former line cook from Redwood Park and executive sous chef at Hawthorne Lane, Nancy Martin, is the new chef de cuisine and can be seen working hard in the partially open kitchen. For starters, don't miss the cracker-crust pizzas with seasonal toppings or the steaming, aromatic bowl of mussels. Entrées are hearty and satisfying, like the crispy roasted half chicken with mashed potatoes topped with tarragon beurre blanc and ratatouille (also available on the early bird prix-fixe menu.) We also loved the butternut squash raviolis with toasty hazelnuts and Marsala brown butter. Rustic desserts are a perfect way to end a home-style meal. Try the apple pie with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce or the flourless chocolate cake with espresso ice cream.
