Alfred's Steakhouse Description:
For more than 70 years, Alfred's has been offering great steaks and personal service. The menu is straightforward: a Caesar salad prepared tableside (dressing with or without raw egg), redolent of anchovies and garlic. The entrée section offers more than half a dozen cuts of steak. Arguably the best is the 32-ounce porterhouse called the King, a juicy tenderloin that practically dissolves on the tongue. The perfect accompaniments are the sinfully rich gratin potatoes and the nutmeg-infused creamed spinach. The wine list is deep with big, beefy reds. Dessert is superfluous. When the owners moved to a new location, they took everything with them, from the banquettes to the dark wood wainscoting to the ballroom chandeliers to the old-world charm. As they did in their former digs, the deep red wallpaper, the damask tablecloths and the gilded mirrors give the restaurant a stately yet cozy appeal.
