La Mar Cebicheria Peruana Description:
He may not be a household name in this country---yet---but chef Gastón Acurio is Peru's equivalent of Bobby Flay. La Mar Cebicheria Peruana represents his first foray into the U.S., and Acurio's focus here is on modern Peruvian cuisine. Acurio couldn't have picked a better location for his first stateside eatery: located just a short walk from the Ferry Building, the restaurant is smack-dab on the water and offers an expansive view---a plus for an eatery that focuses on the fruits of the sea. A lounge-like bar greets patrons as they enter, while floor-to-ceiling windows with sunlight streaming in and splashes of turquoise lend a modern but comfortable indoor-outdoor feel. The ceviche clásico, with chunks of halibut just cooked through by lime juice, is a delicate starter that packs a punch of piquant flavor. Causas, or artfully presented scoops of creamy whipped potatoes topped with seafood, are a soothing twist on the meat-and-potatoes theme. For entrées, the lomo saltado, or traditional Peruvian stir-fry, is a must-order, with pieces of tender beef and light, crisp french fries that sop up the flavorful sauce. Desserts may include the crêpe de chocolate.
