Mirage Description:
The friendly staff makes it easy to enjoy this cuisine, which may be unfamiliar to some. Vegetarians will feel well received in this comfortable, casual space, as the vegetarian fare is both extensive and replete with fascinating flavors. The spare, white interior could signal any kind of restaurant but the aromas distinguish it as Persian. Diced tomatoes, onions, cucumber and parsley with a light mint dressing are the base of this cooking. Whatever you do, order something with eggplant: it comes out creamy, aromatic and rich tasting, inviting the use of the Persian flatbread to scoop up every last bit. Vegetable-stuffed grape leaves are cooked in a sweet-and-sour sauce, leaving them tangy and tender. For a grazing meal, this would be enough. Main courses, served with basmati rice, include lamb, chicken and grilled vegetable dishes. We especially like the uniquely flavored khoreshts, or stews, such as beef and potato khoresht with dried Persian limes. The wine list isn't extensive but it contains some by-the-glass offerings that do well with the food; this is one time you won't mind a white Zinfandel. For dessert, check out the homemade ice creams such as rosewater with pistachios, and have a cup of that serious Persian coffee.
