Buon Appetito Description:
From owners Antonino Mastellone and the Caniglias (Daniela and Salvatore) of Trattoria I Trulli in Encinitas and Arrivederci in Hillcrest, comes Buon Appetito. This cozy spot in Little Italy combines the best of both restaurants, but goes one step further with ambience and sophistication. The best way to start dinner here is with the burrata appetizer---fresh, melted mozzarella served with herbs, sautéed spinach and oven-roasted tomatoes. We also like the grilled polenta appetizer (served with wild mushrooms, roasted garlic and Gorgonzola) and the gamberi Buon Appetito (grilled shrimp served with a Tuscan bean salad---delicious at Arrivederci too). Order anything that contains eggplant---it's never greasy, always right. The veal piccata is very light, a great entrée for lunch or during warm months. The fettuccine alla Montanara combines morels and English peas with a smoky brandy sauce. The majority of menu entries are not new, but high-quality ingredients and expert preparation distinguish Buon Appetito from other run-of-the-mill Italian joints.
