Thee Bungalow Description:
Although now part of the Cohn family restaurant empire, Thee Bungalow has maintained its intimate atmosphere and continues to offer Continental comfort food. The décor is reminiscent of your grandmother's house---if your grandmother happened to live in the Swiss Alps. Small, cozy rooms, big comfortable booths and a roaring fire make this one of the most romantic spots in town. Classics like escargot á la bourguignonne, Brie in puff pastry and mussels á la nage are joined by trendier dishes such as foie gras-Wagyu beef sliders and San Diego-style crab cakes with cilantro-jalapeño beurre blanc and red pepper coulis. The "famous" roast duck is available but we prefer the osso Bungalow (tender lamb with garlic mashed potatoes and Cabernet-plum demi-glace) as well as the Kurobuta prime rib of pork with whole grain mustard-honey glaze and Stilton mashers. Fish-lovers should try the bouillabaisse---made here with a California-style broth and topped with cotija cheese and avocado. Traditional desserts such as chocolate mousse, crème brûlée and orange-liqueur soufflés are offered, but we opt for the almond financier with espresso crème anglaise and cappuccino gelato.
