Postcards American Bistro Description:
We wish that Chef Brick Burtleson, who achieved some fame cooking in San Francisco, had a better venue for his contemporary American cuisine than this golf-oriented Mission Valley hotel. It’s off the beaten track for the average San Diegan, and the hotel guests are are more frequently in the mood for a burger and fries---which the kitchen does well---than for one of Burtleson’s handsome, complicated preparations. When we’re feeling casual, we order the lobster club sandwich; more formal moods lead us to creative dishes like the porterhouse steak in honey-bourbon sauce. A series of murals celebrating San Diego does little to make the place feel intimate, although the tables and chairs are generously sized and supremely comfortable. The servers do their best.
