El Agave Description:
One of our favorite Mexican restaurants in a city known for them, El Agave differs in its dedication to regional specialties and authentic ingredients. For those bored of enchiladas and tamales, El Agave offers a salad of nopales (cactus leaves), a refined yellow squash and leek soup, the ancient Aztec dish cuitlacoche canolone (corn mushroom stuffed and topped with three cheeses) and six different types of moles. Of note are the pierna de cerdo en pistache (leg of pork baked in a chile with ancho, celery, garlic, sesame and pistachio), the 19th century Oaxacan pollo ahogado (chicken in spicy guajillo sauce) and sea bass with pasilla chile, bell peppers and plantains. A true gem for those yearning for high-caliber Mexican fare, El Agave's setting is sophisticated in a rustic fashion.
