Authentic Southern foods such as catfish, collard greens and black-eyed peas, jambalaya, shrimp po' boys and thick pork chops are served up at this family-owned restaurant. Just remember to leave your diet at home because fried foods reign supreme. The sample platter has a little of everything, including fried shrimp, buffalo tenders (no bones), crab cakes and fried catfish. We suggest skipping the gumbo; it's packed with chicken, impossible-to-eat crab legs and sausage, but the flavor is flat and the sauce far too thin. A better choice is the fried chicken; we like it served with candied yams and green beans. The liver and grilled onions rates high, and is terrific when paired with rice and fried okra. The highlight of the meal comes at the end, so be sure not to miss the sweet potato pie with its flaky, tender pastry and just the right combination of creamy sweet potatoes, cinnamon and sugar.
