Phi Bar & Bistro Description:
The doors of Phi Bar & Bistro are wide open on a quiet street inviting the passersby to walk in, donned as they are for a drink or maybe a bite. The communal table underlines the convivial spirit of the Phi, where the idea is to share not only the space but also the portions that are exactly sized for sharing. A few individual tables are aligned along the internal walls with a banquette. The cheese-loving chef makes generous use of it in many of her offerings. The sweet potato fries, the waffle potato fries, the roasted chicken and the crab are tossed, layered or somehow accompanied by ricotta, mozzarella, cheddar or California aged cheese. The cheese component adds a rich and palatable touch to the food. We liked the pita bread fried and cut and served as chips. Fresh salads, yogurts and grilled vegetables will leave your stomach light. A glass of red wine will be a perfect companion for this simple and healthy cuisine. We are not sure, though, why they serve a pleasant Syrah in ugly, thick, clumsy glasses.
