The Pearl Restaurant Description:
Dinner at The Pearl is a scene, as in a fashionable, hip, L.A.-esque scene. The tables are situated around the swimming pool and in front of a large, elevated movie screen (check out the Dive-In Theater theme night every Wednesday). The Pearl's motto, "Down to earth, up with style," is apt: the design is sleek, yet the staff is gracious and fun. The menu traverses the globe with items such as the Asian tuna tataki, the Mexican calamari ropa vieja, the Italian Dungeness crab risotto and the French three cheese onion soup. We anticipate returning for the rock shrimp nachos; the chile glaze is at once sweet and spicy, the shrimp tender yet meaty. The baked Brie needs balance---served with bread, the heavy, overly rich block of melted cheese would shine with some fruit or heat. We'd love to see some acidity added to the ceviche as well. Fish dishes are well prepared. The banana- and macadamia nut-crusted snapper is paired with stir-fried vegetables, caramelized plantains and mango-black bean salsa. We also recommend the cedar plank-roasted salmon with fingerling potatoes, bell pepper relish and arugula pesto. Desserts lean to the simple and comforting; try the sliced heirloom apples with warm cream.
