Located at the Paradise Point Resort & Spa on Vacation Isle in the middle of Mission Bay, BALEENsandiego is a hidden gem. Long a draw with tourists staying at the resort, it tended to get overlooked in town---but no more. Talented chef Megan Reichman now helms the kitchen with flair. Reichman spent eight years working, cooking and sailing through the Mediterranean and South Pacific, culling her skills and expanding her global cuisine knowledge. Years at the Four Seasons on the Big Island also brings Hawaiian influence into her dishes that tend to boast imaginative and tasty flavor combinations. Think wood-roasted diver scallops in a kumquat Chardonnay glaze with a micro herb salad with chanterelles, and crispy fingerlings with truffle essence; or grilled long-line swordfish with plantain and smoked tuna hash served with long beans and a cilantro chimichurri sauce. Be sure to dine outside on the patio and enjoy the breezy views and sunsets. Reichman makes her own pastries and serves up an impressive black-bottom crème brûlée (chocolate ganache hides below) with a citrus almond cookie and berries.
