The name says it all: Taco Garage is a converted brake-repair facility with a tongue-in-cheek take on Tex-Mex. Under the title Licensed Plates, tacos run the gamut from crispy, to puffy to soft, there are Cadillac carnitas to be found and quesadillas come in more models than a fabled Ford of yore. The coctel de camaron supercharges the classic with grilled Gulf shrimp; Fajitas en Fuego include a deep-fried version in Tecate beer batter; and among the Wrenchiladas there is also a grilled shrimp rendition with Monterey jack and cilantro-tomatillo sauce. The table salsas---always the hallmark of a serious place---are super-test sizzling, by the way. And the burly breakfast barbacoa is worth investigating. With its High-Octane bar and evening hours, TG can now tune you up 'round the clock.
