Pam's Patio Kitchen Description:
The ladies'-lunch look of Pam's is reinforced with a menu that seems to center on soups and sandwiches. But don't be deceived. The edgy artworks alone are a clue that there is more going on than meets the eye, and a gutsy gazpacho delivers yet another hint. Even a sandwich stuffed with chicken breast, marinated red onion and more comes across as (junior) leagues above the tuna-salad mentality of most tearoom-type places. More ambitious yet are the entrées of Pam's weekends-only dinners, expanded to include Thursdays. They include Asian (panang beef curry) and Southwestern inspiration (stacked chicken enchiladas) looming large amongst pastas with shrimp and basil pesto and American offerings such as a wok-seared salmon with a topknot of quickly-sautéed tomato, onion and fresh basil. No cucumber sandwiches here. But as much as we hate falling into the stereotypical dessert trap, Pam is a baking queen, and her cakes, pies and---sigh---lemon bars are the stuff of legend. Frequent wine dinners, especially pleasant on the patio in willing weather, are yet another way to push the envelope.
