Oro Restaurant Description:
Sporting salmon-colored banquettes, sophisticated lighting and dark wood details, Oro gleams with a restrained luster, to which the adjacent bar---under-lit onyx counter and all---serves as a suitable introduction. But though the menu started out with Mediterranean ambitions and a string of successful plates, it has lately come to resemble a document more devoted to upscale American with buffed-up Tex-Mex accents. Not that there's anything seriously wrong with cornmeal fried oysters over wilted spinach with citrus cream. It's just that we had come to expect more. Entrées offer some hope with the likes of pan-smoked halibut with artichoke lemon relish and sirloin marinated in achiote, garlic and jalapeños. Comfort will simply have to be taken with desserts among which the Fredricksburg peach cobbler, employing grilled, local peaches, stands out. Canine and feline companions will appreciate the special pet's menu; it was never Mediterranean anyway.
