La Margarita Restaurant Description:
Local lore and legend have it---and we can only join the chorus---that La Margarita, the powerhouse, Produce Row sibling to Mi Tierra, introduced the fajita into the American mainstream. The claim may be hard to prove definitively, but if ever verified, the occasion is certainly plaque-worthy. In the here-and-now, however, seafood plays an equally important role with such offerings as the over-stuffed campechana cocktail and the mariscada estilo La Margarita. Lobster tail, oysters, stuffed crab, frogs' legs and more mound the family-style platter. Baked kid goat, emblematic of the border, is another option, as is the chile relleno, a local favorite consisting of a beef-stuffed poblano chile. (There's also a seafood-stuffed version.) The New Orleans-style two-story porch suggests sittin' and sippin' any of the multiple margaritas which give the restaurant its name. We suggest avoiding cranberry, passion fruit, raspberry and mango models in favor of La Magnifica---as pure as the original fajita but much more potent.
