Godai Sushi Bar and Restaurant Description:
Godai's "High-Noon" look---board walls, Mexican tile floors and tin star decorations---gives it a noodle-Western setting that seems just fine for the San Antonio sushi it serves. Saddle up with starters such as the deep-fried soft shell crab or the black cod drizzled with miso and truffle oil. It's all part of a fusion focus that also includes an over-the-top tuna miso crusted with wasabi and streaked with aged balsamic and the sashimi "tapas" with tuna, yellowtail and salmon. Then sashay on to any of the classic sushi and sashimi selections---with the possible exception of aggressively chile-spiked tobiko. The relatively restrained rolls also merit a look-see. Consider pairing chef Goro's tempura with a cold saké. But it's in the utterly Asian noodle dishes where tradition finally comes to the fore. Try the nabeyaki udon with its abundance of slurpy noodles, slices of fishcake and slivers of pickled daikon.
