Biga on The Banks Description:
Chef Bruce Auden's Biga on the Banks of San Antonio is one of the top rated restaurants in Texas featuring an eclectic menu.
Bruce Auden, the city's dean of contemporary cuisine, is spearheading Biga on the Banks in the Stone Oak area, but the kitchen crew has many years of experience under the collective toque. If you liked Biga before, you'll like it even better now; the menu retains its Asian and Latino influences as it continues to lean toward local produce. The airy dining room with its perch over the River Walk is a fine frame for starters such as chicken-fried Gulf oysters or pot stickers with spicy red currant sauce. And it also serves as a setting for more profound plates such as the bouillabaisse with lobster and eleven-spice Hill Country venison chops. We like the wine list, heavily but not parochially domestic, as much for its straightforward eclecticism ("really big wines" anyone?) as for its reasonably gentle pricing. Wines by the glass, poured at the bar with appetizers such as Bibb and radicchio game packets, are a pleasant possibility. And we admit to being inordinately fond of the sticky toffee pudding with English custard that betrays the chef's London upbringing.
