La Hacienda De Los Barrios Description:
La Hacienda is the way-uptown offspring of the original Los Barrios. The tree-shaded setting has been the scene of a Bobby Flay Food Network throwdown with owner Diana Barrios. (Her puffy tacos bested his.) Yet even if the location is classier and the clientele newly affluent, many dishes pay homage to the original restaurant. Nachos Agrios with beans, red peppers two cheeses and sour cream top the appetizer menu; it and a coastal shrimp cocktail are naturals with margaritas. The selection of top-shelf tequilas is among the best in town, in fact, and a shot or two could be a compañero to the tacos of blackened tilapia or the combination beef and pork grill called El Mofofo. But when it comes to the churrasco steak with chimichurri garlic dressing, stick to a traditional Mexican beer such as the lusty Negra Modelo. For dessert, order the prodigious empanadas stuffed with guava paste and cream cheese and dusted with powdered sugar---por favor.
