Francesca's At Sunset Description:
The Westin La Cantera Resort complex, perched imperiously atop a hill overlooking golf courses, the Fiesta Texas theme park and an upscale shopping enclave, is a citadel of conspicuous consumption. Fortunately, most pretentiousness is left at the door of the flagship restaurant, Francesca's at Sunset. (Yes, we think the name's odd, too.) Long under the influence of Southwestern culinary guru Mark Miller, the kitchen has been showing some signs of emancipation with the addition of a farm-to-table menu category featuring "naturally nurtured" local products, including produce and Texas Tender Gold watermelon. Locally ranched Broken Arrow antelope loin is paired with Seguin onions, Gonzales mushrooms and Helotes corn. Southwestern-style lobster enchiladas with pepper jack cheese or paprika-rubbed sea bass with pico de gallo are first-rate, too. Servers are well-trained and the wine list offers plenty of bottles with the moxie to match full-throttle foods. The unusually informative sommelier's recommendations are bracketed within the voluminous document, in which wines are arranged by style.
