Copper Kitchen Southwest Description:
The Southwest School of Art & Craft was once home to an order of French nuns, and the historic limestone compound still inspires reverence. It does so both for the art produced and shown there and for amenities such as the tree-shaded grounds on the banks of the San Antonio River and the welcoming Copper Kitchen occupying the old Ursuline dining room. Lined in limestone and furnished with a hodge-podge of antique chairs and tables, the room itself is a feast for the eyes, but the volunteer-run kitchen with its cafeteria-like line can provide sustenance for more than the soul. Sandwiches of the chicken salad sort, soups suitable for summer and winter days alike, and salads with vibrantly green herbal dressing are typical of the fare. And so are sheet cakes cut into neat, church-social squares. Relax, you are going back, way back.
