Podnas Catfish and Po Boys Description:
Podnas is a fast casual restaurant with a New Orleans flair. Seafood is fried to order in trans fat free peanut oil. Moderate prices and huge portions have made Podnas a critics choice in the short time it's been open.
Chef-owner Robert Riddle has elevated the lowly catfish to cult-classic status at his Mardi Gras-hued hangout for fans of Crescent City cuisine. Have it fried, have it blackened, have it broiled but have it. Red beans and rice also reign supreme, mostly making up for po' boys that could use a handout. Breads are brought in from Gambrino's Bakery in New Orleans; the olive salad that goes on muffulettas should probably be sourced there as well. Hushpuppies, however, are howl-at-the-moon good, and a chopped salad with chicken and bacon, along with daily specials such as meatloaf and pot roast, provide an alternative to things fried. Peach cobbler transcends its foam-cup container; a leaden bread pudding does not. But fried oysters are feather-light and tip the balance in the house's favor. A drive-in window is also available.
